Interview Tips
When you are applying for a job, these tips may assist you.
- Ensure you address your covering letter to the correct person.
- If your first interview is with a recruitment consultant, treat it with the same level of importance as the hiring company. Remember recruitment consultants make the decision on whether or not you meet the client.
- Ensure you have done a spelling and grammar check on your resume before sending it.
- Respond to the job ad on the same or next working day it is published.
- Try to keep your resume to less then 6 pages.
- Before going to the client interview, visit the companies Web site to do some preparation.
- Be prepared when you arrive at the interview.
- Look the part (dress appropriately)
- Re read the ad to ensure you have it fresh in your mind the skills required
- Think about how you are going to answer questions on your strengths, experience and achievements etc
- Be 10 minutes early, NOT 1 minute late
- If for some reason you are running late, before your assigned interview time, call to let them know
- Ask questions, about the job, the company, the work environment etc
- If the job or company does not appeal, do not accept the position
- Do not be negative in an interview, Sample: (Why do you wish to leave your current employer)? This type of question often brings out a negative, think about how you answer it. The way people answer this question often determines if you get the job or not. Make your answer very brief, then finish off with a positive comment .
- At the end of the client interview, if you feel the job is what you are looking for, (ask the interviewer in your own words): when would you like me to start or when will you be making the decision. Show enthusiasm for the position.
- If you are told, "we will be making the decision within a week", call to follow up the recruitment consultant or if you did not go through a recruitment consultant call the company within 2-3 days, (ask in your own words) "can you tell me if I have been successful", (show enthusiasm).
- If you are not successful, say thank you for your consideration, and should another position arise, I would appreciate being considered. Do not argue the point, accept it and leave the door open for future opportunities.
